Venus Is Hotter Than Mercury...

Venus, the second planet from the sun, is named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty.  The planet — the only planet named after a female — may have been named for the most beautiful deity of her pantheon because it shone the brightest of the five planets known to ancient astronomers. The average temperature of Mercury is about 442.5K whereas Venus has an average temperature of 735K. The reason for these temperatures being the presence of atmosphere in Venus and absence of atmosphere in Mercury. Venus has the thickest atmosphere in our Solar system. The atmosphere mainly consists of Carbon dioxide and some Nitrogen. The carbon dioxide rich atmosphere generates the strongest greenhouse effect in our Solar system, which means that heat will be trapped inside. Also, as the heat is trapped inside, the weather spreads the heat across the whole planet and therefore, the whole planet has a temperature of about 735K. It is a completely different story in Mercury. As it ha...

NASA's InSight Lander

InSight - Studying the 'Inner Space' of Mars A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket, designated AV-078, will launch NASA’s InSight lander to Mars.  InSight will touch down in the Elysium Planitia region of Mars in November 2018 to study the Martian interior and search for ongoing seismic activity. The rocket will fly in the 401 vehicle configuration with a four-meter fairing, no solid rocket boosters and a single-engine Centaur upper stage.  The InSight mission seeks to uncover how a rocky body forms and evolves to become a planet by investigating the interior structure and composition of Mars. The mission will also determine the rate of Martian tectonic activity and meteorite impacts. The phases of the InSight mission include: Pre-Launch :   Preparing for the mission includes pre-project planning, science definition and instrument selection, landing site selection, assembly and testin...
